Day 159-marilyn is a star

Okay, so i havent had a chance to yet finish the stars and stripes cushion...
Tonight I am continuing with the "stars" theme with my marilyn doll. I did start her to be part of the "American" tour but she never got the chance to be featured, so tonight she makes her debut as the "stars and stripes" theme continues.... I figured she is a "star" and the "stars and stripes" theme makes us think of america... (and i have had a big day at work and have no time to finish the cushion... so here goes)

printed marilyn face, sketch of body for the pattern
cut out
stitch
I have stitched her signature to her behind...

okay so she is not quite finished either...
I will get back to these last two projects over the weekend, but for now I am super busy!!!!!

Day 132-Cruising L.A. for the day

Today has been great! In fact the best day at work ive ever had! I have been paid to drive around L.A and shop!! okay so my normal "day job" is not usually ANYWHERE! near this glamourous, this is the exception to the rule.
My usual day consists of sitting in front of a computer and...well ...sitting in front of a computer. Below are a few pics from the day's events and today's craft.

Brekky... yum
Convertible with my besty, we were having a thelma and louise moment...
(we asked for an "upgrade" at the car rental... "you dont ask you dont get")
I think I have finally got the hang of driving on the wrong side of the road!
Initially it was like learning to drive again (except in another country, on the wrong side of the road and in the most expensive car you have EVER driven! ahhh)
so what was I doing for work?
My job is to design clothing and accessories for a few different menswear and boyswear labels in Australia's discount department stores Target and Kmart. We have to ensure to keep up to date with overseas trends even at this lower end of the market. In order to do so we seasonally go on overseas trips to research and purchase "on trend" garments and product. This is only my second overseas buying trip for work (and the first by myself).
I have to say that as fun and as glamourous as it may look it is also quite stressful, you are being entrusted to research and purchase the right product for particular clients in a short time frame. Your own job and reputation is on the line, so I do take this side of it seriously.

Okay back to craft...
(I do PROMISE when I get home, the blog will return to more of a "craft blog" and less of a "travel blog")
Today's craft is a t-shirt I designed on illustrator and printed when I was still back in melbourne
its a sentiment I feel quite strongly about, see below

Day 131-off to LA!

Today has been a long day of travel from New York to LA. Its late at night here, so I am just writing a quick blog tonight.
The craft for today is a cushion I designed, printed and stitched together before I left home, see below a close up photo of the print on the fabric. I found a cartoon of the "sex and the city" girls and cropped photos of each of our faces onto the images. I don't have any other pics of the finished cushion as I have given it to cass for her 40th and she is now back in London.

Day 130-Priscilla on Broadway and our Last night in NYC

Its my last day in New York.... :(
Last night Miss Cass and I went to see Priscilla on Broadway....and it was FANTASTIC! the costumes, the singing, the BUS! (see a few cheeky photos i sneeked below)

outside Priscilla in times square
The Sydney harbour on broadway
the giant shoe on the top of the bus!
the bus was fantastic, the sides of the bus were actually led screen's with changing images for the various scenes (looked at the Koala outfits on the roof!!)
 Sydney to Alice

 these cupcake outfits were great!
after the show we walked around times square at around 11.30pm at night, all the shops were open, everything from the Mac make-up store, clothing shops even the disney store (what kind of parents have their toddlers out in times square at midnight??).
We walked past one of the many souvenir stalls and i spotted this t-shirt.....
how is this for FAST FASHION...

Today my best friend Bianca arrived in town and we headed to central park for my second bike ride around, it really is a stunning park!
Tonight the four of us gals headed out for dinner on our last night in town (see pics of us below with our "mini me" dolls).

Today's craft is cass's doll as it has not featured on the blog until now,  happy 40th Cass!

I am off to L.A tomorrow,

Day 129-Guggenheim and Alexander Mcqueen

Today was stunning weather, really hot and sunny (Actually the weather here has been amazing, we have only had one day of rain whilst in New York).
My aim for today was to visit the world renowned "Guggenheim" art gallery and "The MET" (the metropolitan museum of art).

Here I am at the "Guggenheim"
its an amazing building
you actually view the art as you climb the swirling ramp shape of the building
my favourite painting on display was by Frantisek Kupka
see below
I also loved the painting below (but i cant remember who it was by??)
After this I headed to "The Met" where luckily for me an exhibition on Alexander McQueen was showing called "Savage Beauty". I have to say this exhibition was absolutely breathe-taking, mind blowing INCREDIBLE!
I am even considering going back tomorrow...

Day 128-Etsy market and Central park

Today we were all up at the crack of dawn (partly due to a bad sleep and partly due to our excitement to visit an "Etsy" craft market!!!)
We lined up early (as the first 100 guests received a goodie bag, and everyone LOVES a goodie bag!). I used my time in the line wisely to introduce myself to each person and handout my "365" promo postcard (yep a little shameless self promotion in the city that never sleeps!).
Below check out photos from my day,

location of the craft market in New York, "Slate" a restaurant and bar (also used for events)
Oh wow!! the hub of "Etsy"
I was intrigued watching crafters arrive with their set up via taxi's (as most New Yorkers do not own cars), I later discussed this with another stall holder inside who informed me she lugged her whole set up on the subway!!! (that's crafty dedication)
inside the market it was fairly small and quite dark (almost like a night club)
Here is my craft for the day, I printed this tee at home and then stitched on some crocheted flowers. I think it was an appropriate fashion choice for the day.
Next we headed off in the direction of central park. We hired bikes and rode around tho whole park (it took around an hour at a leisurely pace).
It is a stunning park!!! and MASSIVE
On the way back to the hotel I noticed the front cover of the new "O" magazine, where Oprah was wearing the exact same colour as my Oprah doll!!! he he

Day 126- Lazy day in New York

Today I have enjoyed a little more of a slower pace,
a slight sleep in,
and then a massage at the hotel day spa (my muscles were very sore from all that shopping!!)
and.... I can't believe my luck as I spotted another CELEBRITY today! getting pampered at the Day Spa

YEP ELLEN!!!
and then she rolled over and i spotted a little more than i'd expected!
a tattoo of her name on her butt (just in case she forgets who she is??)
after the spa experience I headed out for a yummy japanese lunch and abit more of a shopping spree
(hello H&M and Victoria's Secret!)

on the way back to the hotel this evening i snapped a pic of a guy on the street with some crazy-like hair
see below
I have posted early today as I am heading to times square to try my luck with last minute broadway tickets. If you havent booked tickets and you are going by yourself there is a system called the "lottery" where you list your name at the front desk an hour before the show and if there are any seats left
right before it starts you can buy them super super cheap!! fingers crossed!

Craft out!!
