Day 284-a break away from the reno

Tonight I have steered away from the bedroom reno creations and whipped up a few brooches (sorry its a little hard to do the reno's after work each day!)

I cut out some pictures out of Frankie magazine and glued them onto these little scrapbooking shapes, then i added a layer of vanish and have left them to dry overnight.

Day 283-reno continues

Tonight I have continued with the second coat on the bedside tables..

I started outside in the cold after work on the 2nd coat on the drawers
then lightly sanded back the tables
and then moved inside to paint (i may wake up with the house smelling of paint! but at least i avoided catching a cold!)

this is the black and white striped fabric i have picked up (from ikea)
me starting to sketch ideas for the shape
 and some more
So the bedroom reno plans continue!

Day 281- sanding sanding and more sanding...

I have spent the day sanding.... my head, mouth and clothes are filled with paint particles and my house smells like turps!
I am working on a few pieces of furniture for the bedroom, but unfortunately don't have much to show for it tonight.
Below is the progress on the drawers.

lightly sanded the drawers
painted the first coat on the drawers high gloss white (leaving the handles blank, I will paint these high gloss black later)

Day 280 Room reno begins!

Over the next month I am planning to renovate my bedroom. It is a tiny room with a large window and exposed beams. When we bought the house a year ago we painted the room white... and that's as far as we got! So its time for the next step...

This is how the room looked when we purchased the property
I have decided to go for a black and white theme...
starting with my upcycled bedside tables below

pretty ugly bedside tables, but they had a good shape and i saw potential
(op shop, $25 each)

after a wipe down and a light sand, the painting begins... high gloss black!!
 WOW!! looking great!
now I have left them to dry,
I am thinking of painting the drawers high gloss white with the handle in black
I was also thinking of lining the inside of the drawers with some wallpaper/wrapping paper
(maybe black and white stripes? or fleur de lis?)

Day 279-Mr Anxious

Tonight I decided to stitch up a little friend to reflect my mood.
I am feeling a little anxious tonight, a busy day at work, lots on my mind, cleaning the house, the blog..... blah blah blah blah

ahhhhhhhhh
 ahhhhh
So I have decided that I will tell this little buddy all my anxieties (as you would tell an "African worry doll" all your worries) and leave him on the shelf to deal with them!!

Day 278-midnight dress ups

Its 11.42pm on a wednesday night & I have finally finished my frock!
I then splashed on a dash of lippy and did the "old midnight photoshoot with my fiancee"(hmm what did I do with myself before the blog???....oh that's right "I'd be in bed now like a normal person!")
Normal Snormal....

earlier in the eve...when there was still light
all frocked up and nowhere to go...nightcap anyone??

side view-I added the frills on the back to hide the lumps and bumps
 "frill back bron"
night night, time for my crafty sleep

Day 277-I found a use for all those scraps!

Since I bought all those fabric swatches from resource rescue I have been trying to come up with good uses for lots of small scraps of lovely patterned fabric.
Tonight I have used these fabrics to make frills... see the process below,

I traced around a long top of mine and made a pattern
worked out how many frills I needed
cut long strips 5cm wide, sewed a gathering stitch and pinned them in place
I used chalk to draw the lines on the fabric exactly where the frills needed to be pinned so that they were evenly spaced
I am also thinking of adding the frills on the bottom half on the back (to hide my lumps and bumps)
This will have to be a 2 day project, its 11.41pm
time for bed

Day 276-Op Shop dress upcycle

Happy Monday!
Did you check out september's wrap up on the previous post?
Only 3 little months to go!

I really like tonight's craft! The other day I was scavenging at an op shop and came across this super simple 80's shape summer dress in a light seersucker fabric (see pic below)

Ive added a floral frill around the neckline and a belt
I tried adding a flower out of the same fabric too, but then thought it was better without it
 perfect summer dress!
