Day 138-Map brooch

Tonight I have used the melways maps to make a brooch for my next-door neighbour, she is planning to sell her house starting next week so I decided to use the map of our suburb so she will not forget her time here.
cutting out the maps
I used some scrap-booking discounted christmas charms to make my brooch
I glued and varnished the map onto the scrap-booking charm to create the brooch and then glued a brooch back onto it.

Day 109-paper mache map bracelet

Tonight I have whipped up a paper mache creation!
I love paper mache! it takes me back to early childhood, getting your hands messy mixing together flour and water to make the sticky goo.
I have used an old car map book of Melbourne to create this bracelet below...

old map book
cut in strips, mix glue from flour and water
use some kind of cup or object to start layering your strips onto
after a few hours you will be able to take it off the mold, but better to leave it overnight to properly dry

Day 96-forrest treasure necklace

Tonight I have pieced together a necklace from treasures collected over the years, beads, fake leaves, plastic toys and vintage printed binding.
I kept to a green colour theme to help combine all of these different textures and elements.

Day 95-rabbit plushie and birthday parcels

Tonight I went out to get semi permanent fake lashes (yes I love the OTT look) and then arrived home at 8pm to find a little parcel on my doorstep! youve gotta love snail mail!! an early birthday parcel from my wonderful aunty jude (who without fail always sends great treats every birthday). This years was a combination of pressies and craft articles for inspiration. I love the little hand made fabric wrap bracelet she bought (see pics below) I might have a crack at making one of these too.

for tonight's craft however i have made a little plushie rabbit (it is nearly easter after all)

 one of my birthday gift's
it can be worn as a necklace or bracelet, but i like it as a bracelet ("buddhist hipster tre' chic" ha ha)

Day 86 - Vintage upcycled brooch.

Last night was a blast and we're still recovering, so today I put together a simple but effective brooch from bits and pieces of broken jewelery and other little recycled trinkets.

Simply glue onto a brooch back:

And voila!

Turned out a little bit art deco and a little bit steam punk.

Day 76-jabot goes leather

Tonight I have tried out the jabot with leather, I love the two colours of leather together, as well as the idea of using such a sturdy fabric as a frill (a real contrast of technique vs fabrication).
It was tough work trying to sew through 3 layers of leather and two layers of fabric... i snapped one needle and the machine kept skipping stitches!! I think i needed a shoemakers leather machine for this!!
one or two layers of soft leather seems to work fine on the domestic but more than that and its a nightmare.
Ive never mastered leather on the industrial either, ive tried various leather needles, and thick threads, and wax coated threads etc etc, none seemed to work...any advice??
Anyways it still worked out in the end... see below

fabric from a vintage scarf finishes the top and combines the two leather colours
