Day 234-another day another decoration!

In early prep for my chrissy market stall i have made another decoration

Today's is a heart
sketch your heart shape onto cardboard to use as a template
cut x2 out of felt
place a loop of ribbon between the two pieces and stitch together
use your glue gun to decorate
at first i was planning to cover the whole heart with buttons
and then i decided it looked better with just a few to one side
how much would you pay for a handmade decoration??
let me know your thoughts in the comments section below....

Day 232-to market to market to buy a fat pig...

Today I again ignored my cold and took advantage of the good weather! A friend and I headed to the Ivanhoe centre for the "Magnolia Square" craft market.

Today's Magnolia Square market was held at the beautiful art deco hall in Ivanhoe
it was great to chat to fellow crafters and designers
when I got home later in the day I went thru some bags of donated fabrics
I want to send a massive shout out to Polly from the Knox council and her sister for donating 4 garbage bags full of fabrics from the 70's/80's. Apparently Polly's, sister's, neighbour was going to throw these out!! and they were rescued and donated for my project! Thank-you so so much! it really is a great help and has my mind bubbling with new ideas!

below are just some of the retro prints and florals from the bags of fabric
 back to tonight's craft!
after a long day driving her there and everywhere I am just going to feature another decoration for my christmas stall
how much would you pay for a hand made decoration???

Day 231-Super Saturday's LIN-CRAFT

Hello friendly followers and fellow crafters!

It is super weather here today in Melbourne! and although my cold is still hanging on I am trying to ignore it!
Today I went on a drive to the Lincraft store in Nunawading (372-394 Whitehorse Road).
Usually I go to the same one near my work in Hawthorn, but I thought I'd go and check out a different one (Note; if you are driving there it is a little hard to find because it is actually inside the "Home HQ" centre on whitehorse rd, I kept driving back and forth looking for it!)

this is the building to look for
 Lincraft is upstairs
this store is great because it was super quiet and super neat, So I spent a good hour and a half looking and collecting supplies.

I love their selection of printed cotton's
and spied some super cute kids curtains with a bunting print on it
these were really really long, so that you are able to cut the length you need and hem them yourself, I don't have kids yet myself but I think these would look great to decorate a nursery... one day!
I also really like the "plantation"range of blockout fabrics (below) these have extra thick backing which also make them perfect for curtains or furnishings
okay back to my project for today...
I was on the hunt for supplies to make christmas decorations (I know its a "tad" early!) but I have been given a stall spot at the Knox Community Carols by candlelight at the start of December and figured I should get onto it early.

I started by buying some felt off the roll, its much cheaper to buy by the metre
I also found some great teeny tiny pom poms to decorate my creations
back at home I got started by sketching some template shapes onto cardboard
 lots of template shapes!
I will just show you one complete design today.
I started with a simple circle (cut 2 for extra thickness)
and a little heart for the centre
pin a ribbon loop between the two layers and stitch together around the edge of the circle with a contrast thread
then I decided to add a second circle to the middle in a contrast colour, then the heart, some buttons and a ribben bow to finish (these were all attached with a glue gun)
I have hung these from some branches I spray painted in silver (this was last year's tree)

here is another one using the pom pom's
okay I wasnt going to show you anymore... but here is a sneak peak... shhhhhhhhhh
They just look so good altogether! The key is to use the same colour palette for all of them

Day 194-purple bunny

Tonight its another rabbit plushie, but this time in purple.

I had some problems with coverage on the screen print and had to touch it up with a paint brush afterwards.

I have used some purple drill for the front and some polka dot cotton poplin on the back, both from Lincraft
cut him out leaving approx 4-5cms all the way around
 hip n hop (before stuffing)
 hip and hop (after stuffing)
 backsides
 they are actually quite big
 and very nice to hug

Day 193-printed, plushie, patchwork... sheepy

Following on from the printed rabbit plushie... we have the printed sheepie plushie.

print one sheep onto some bright green drill from Lincraft
 baaaaaaaaa
after he dries iron the print to seal it
and then cut around the print leaving 4-5cms extra
The backing fabric is some cute patch printed cotton poplin from Lincraft
 ready to be stuffed
I love the contrast of the black print on the bright green, which looks really modern,
and then the patchwork print on the back.
ready for hugs...
 backsides
 don't jump!!

Day 189-craft heaven, printing and a poorly bird...

Today I discovered craft heaven! a craft supplies warehouse called "Theo's discount craft" and the crazy thing is that its about a five minute drive from my house! see pics below...

okay so its very unassuming from outside
The signs outside made me laugh! for such a "crafty" place surely they could bedazzle a new sign!
but like many great asian restaurant's its often the dodgy looking one's that are the best!
its what's inside that counts!
 aisle's
 open aisle's....
I finally managed to drag myself away
back to my planned craft for the day, printing plushie's.

The boring bit... setting up...
screen ready
WALAH!
i printed a few more repeat's and then took the screen outside to clean it off
and discovered a hurt bird hobbling around, i think he might have broken a wing... bless him
i took him to the local vet... i hope they can fix him...
