Day 100!! and its my birthday!!

Happy Bday to me and Happy Day 100 for 365 days of craft!
I spent a lovely breakfast out with a few of my girlfriends at "New York Tomato" (a great little melbourne cafe in Richmond) "new york loft" styling, run out of the back of a garage http://www.breakfastout.com.au/newyorktomato.html

okay back to craft! I was up until 2am last night working on some of the craft projects scheduled for my trip away in the US (they are all "American" themed...enough said, lips sealed).

Today's craft I have made an oversized t-shirt/dress to wear with leggings, see the process below,

At the moment I love oversized tees, especially the ones with extra length at the back, these are two from my current wardrobe
I cut the front out of black stretch cotton jersey
and the back out of a two tone mesh (which is alot longer than the front)
overlock the outside of both panels, edge the front neckline, attach both pieces at the shoulder seams and then pin in place where you are going to sew the side seams (as shown below)

these type of garments do not have any hanger appeal, but look fantastic on because they flow and move with the body and have extra drape
looks like i have my outfit sorted for tomorrow

lovely andee cooked me a beautiful bday dinner! what a great day

2nd april-vintage scarf's new life

This evening i have given a new life to some of my vintage scarf's, i LOVE vintage scarf's, especially the really gaudy ones!! everytime i am at camberwell markets or an op shop i just cant resist! But I still havent found the best upcycle method for them... today I have used 4 scarf's and a small piece of black jersey (stretch fabric) to make a skirt. I even wore it out to dinner tonight!! see the process below

some of my vintage scarf collection...
 a few more...
cut a piece of black jersey stretch fabric into a rectangle, double it over and bag it out (joining with the overlocker) to create a wide waistband and then fold your scrafs into triangles, pin into place.
best to try out the colours on the stand before stitching

new skirt for heading out to dinner, thai food yum yum

Day 76-jabot goes leather

Tonight I have tried out the jabot with leather, I love the two colours of leather together, as well as the idea of using such a sturdy fabric as a frill (a real contrast of technique vs fabrication).
It was tough work trying to sew through 3 layers of leather and two layers of fabric... i snapped one needle and the machine kept skipping stitches!! I think i needed a shoemakers leather machine for this!!
one or two layers of soft leather seems to work fine on the domestic but more than that and its a nightmare.
Ive never mastered leather on the industrial either, ive tried various leather needles, and thick threads, and wax coated threads etc etc, none seemed to work...any advice??
Anyways it still worked out in the end... see below

fabric from a vintage scarf finishes the top and combines the two leather colours
