February is over already!

Can you believe it will be march already tomorrow! bye bye summer :(

This week's theme is rabbits, I have two pet rabbit's, its the year of the rabbit and its almost easter... so I am celebrating the rabbit! After the long crafty hand sewing intensive weekend I am starting the week slowly with a little rabbit finger puppet, see below

to market to market to buy a fat pig

Sunday,
Today I have continued with the humorous stuffed animal theme from yesterday and made my whale a pig friend, see pics below.
These two toy/pillows have actually taken me probably the longest out of all my projects! the hand sewing involved with the letters and with the ears/nose/tail etc have taken me all day.
I used wire thickly covered with masking tape to put inside the tail to make it go in a curl (its covered in masking tape so that the wire doesnt spike you when you hug the toy/or poke a hole thru the toy).
After all the hand sewing this weekend I feel like making a book mark tomorrow...

Whale of a time...

Saturday,
How I love the weekends!
This morning I went for a jog, had a coffee at my local cafe and read the paper, came home and cleaned the house and then got crafty.
I have spent three hours non stop on today's project and its still not complete... but I have to leave it there for today as I am off to an engagement party which started (20 minutes ago...and is a 45 minute drive away...) so yes I am late all in the name of craft!
I dont have much to finish off, just the final machine stitching and stuffing which I will do tomorrow and post final pics.
See below.... my three favourite things craft, humour and food...(well a reference to food, as I dont eat whales...)

almost there...those dam letters took me one solid hour to hand sew on
its going to be a pretty big cushion...

Day 56-felt necklace

Friday, lovely lovely sparkling friday!
Tonight I hand sewed a necklace from felt whilst watching a doco on tv after dinner.
My fiancee and I love doco's, i'd even go so far to say we are slightly obsessed with doco's. We have been known to have week's where we watch them every night. I think it must be a sign of my age... when I was a teenager I remember thinking "what on earth does dad find so interesting about documentaries?" and now here I am soaking in the information like a sea sponge...
hmm, anyway back to craft talk...see pics below

I drew a shape onto paper, pinned this to the felt and cut it out
cut out some contrasting circles and pinned these on
stitched the circles in place, attached the ribbon and sewed a bead over the top of the ribbon attachment (which helps to stabilize the ribbon)
 crafty neck art
I was taking inspiration from this other necklace I own for colour and concept, I didnt make this one, but I love it!!! "my motto with jewellery is the same as with a glass of wine... bigger the better! "

Crafty trash... or Trashy craft?

Tonight I have challenged myself to reinvent my rubbish. I was about to take my recycling up to the recycling bin after dinner when I had an idea, I hadn't yet thought of what craft project I was going to make and I had a big pile of bottles and boxes and plastic for the recycling... what could I do with it??

Its really hard when faced with the challenge because you brain seems to just go... "hmmm what could I do with it? put it in the bin sounds like a good idea!"

But I persevered... and lets just say its not my finest craft moment... but i did start with trash and manage to make some things.

my recycling
I flattened and cut up the cardboard boxes
traced neat rectangles on the plain side
glued these sections onto some pages out of my favourite magazine "Frankie"

walah gift tags

next those plastic bottles, plastic containers and tin
hmmm seedling planters?
pretty and crafty seedling planters

The final products altogether
and I still have more recycling left over...
but i think thats headed for the bin...

Day 53- fashion collage

Today I spent most of the day in bed as I wasnt well, this afternoon I have picked up and sat in the afternoon sun in my lounge room making this collage.
I think it turned out really cute, I have used pics from old 1930's fashion magazines.
Big shout out to New Zealand and friends there, I hope you are all okay after the earthquake.

Sheepy tote bag

Today I am featuring another of the sheepy prints which I have printed onto a calico tote bag.
I love the simple plain black print onto the calico fabric.
Sorry to repeat the sheeps 3 days in a row, I was planning to make something different tonight but have been feeling quite unwell today... definitely will make something without the "sheep" them tomorrow.
Take care (remember if you cant sleep, count sheep)
