Day 304-kenny koala hand puppet

Tonight's craft...
introducing Mr Kenny Koala

I sketched his shape roughly on paper and used that as the pattern guide
next I cut him out of felt
I hand stitched the eyes and nose on and then machine stitched the rest
leaving the bottom open for your hand
next time I attempt to make a hand puppet I will need to make it bigger
my hand is a little too fat to fit inside... oh well it will probably be okay for a kids hand
(all this talk of sticking hands inside koala's bottoms is freaking me out...)

Day 302-preparing for the "upcycle your wardrobe workshop"

Its the night before the big day! (well not "THE" big day, my wedding is in 3 months) but the big day in terms of running my first workshop!
It is a lot to prepare for! especially as I decided to provide all the supplies for the workshop other than materials (which means I need 15 pairs of scissors, 15 pens, 15 hand sewing needles etc etc)

A couple of weeks back I picked up some old shelves from a car boot sale which I painted white (see below) I was planning to hang these on my bedroom wall (when I finally get around to completing the "bedroom renovation") to sit my jewellery in. But it looks like I have found a new use for now! I was searching around for something to carry all the different bits and bobs for the workshop tomorrow and this has turned out perfect for the job!

I also have hand outs ready for my class, with super simple step by step "upcycle" techniques
and another (I think its time I start writing a book! perhaps that is next years project......)
and then I have been cutting out some inspiration pics for the wall of all different up cycling projects I found on the net (bless google images!!! love it!!!)

wish me luck!
I need a good night sleep, a super super strong morning coffee
and a class filled with fabulous creative peeps ready to play!

Day 300-celebrating the 300 days milestone!

Today I am celebrating 300 days of the craft blog with a photoshoot.
My besty Bianca has frocked up in my newly upcycled skirt, a matching lacey fascinator and an upcycled singlet.
Bianca's art deco St Kilda apartment made a great backdrop for our fun shoot!

I can't believe its only 65 days to go!

Day 298-shoe number 2

After the success of my first shoe upcycle attempt I was keen to have another crack.
It has actually been really fun working on shoes!

I started with another old pair of shoes
they don't look that old in the shot above, but they are about 4 years old and are all scuffed (see pic below)
I still love the old fashioned shape though, so I think they will be fun to revamp...
my colour palette for tonight, green!
I started by lining the inside with some polka dot fabric (which i have attached with the trusty glue gun)
I've added some grey felt on the front and a lace strip around the ankle opening
next some leaves from some fake flowers and a rose I have hand stitched out of silk
 YAY SHOE NUMBER 2!!
shoes this good = feet on the table!!
I am starting my own collection
its 12.10am... only 67 days to go!

Day 297-Fabric bedhead cover step 2

Step 2 for the covered bedhead is now live to watch on you tube below...

finished the cutting
laid out the 4 layers of foam which I purchased from Resource Rescue
traced and cut around the foam (it was easy enough to cut thru with normal scissors)
I then joined the two pieces together by adding an overlapping piece of mdf on the back. I have used liquid nails to join this and then placed a heavy weight on top (make sure to leave it to dry for 48hrs before moving it again)
"this is now drying INSIDE my house on the DINING table....
looks like tv's dinner's for the next few nights"
