Day 160-stripey upcycle

Today at work there was a kids jumper sample that was about to be thrown in the bin as it had a big cut out of the back, so I decided to see what could be salvaged from it... see the process below

baby gap stripey jumper with a hole in the back
i chopped off the sleevs and the hood
and used my awesome new brother overlocker to finish the cut edges off neatly to create some leg warmers and a hooded hat
sure to brighten up the winter days!!
leg warmers worn over tights for extra warmth
the hood fits really well and the top button keeps it in place
the overlocked edge creates a wavey edge

Day 159-marilyn is a star

Okay, so i havent had a chance to yet finish the stars and stripes cushion...
Tonight I am continuing with the "stars" theme with my marilyn doll. I did start her to be part of the "American" tour but she never got the chance to be featured, so tonight she makes her debut as the "stars and stripes" theme continues.... I figured she is a "star" and the "stars and stripes" theme makes us think of america... (and i have had a big day at work and have no time to finish the cushion... so here goes)

printed marilyn face, sketch of body for the pattern
cut out
stitch
I have stitched her signature to her behind...
marilyn with the american crew
okay so she is not quite finished either...
I will get back to these last two projects over the weekend, but for now I am super busy!!!!!

Day 153-indoor winter craft activity for the kiddley-winks

Tonight we have another wintery craft activity the kids will love!
everyone with kids has a box of random half used (half chewed) crayons around the house, so here is something you can use them for...

grate your crayons with a kitchen grater (ensure to clean well again before grating cheese otherwise it will taste a little waxy)
use a few contrasting colours
-Cut a piece of wax paper twice, fold over with wax side of paper touching.
Open up your paper and lay out a good layer of crayon shavings. Fold the top of paper back over.

Using a warm iron, gently run over the top of project, Be careful the crayon shavings will melt fast you only want enough heat to melt the shavings slightly and to melt the wax on the wax paper to seal your project.
Insert this in between the 2 pieces of cardboard, and add a pc of ribbon between the hearts to hang project from. Glue, or double side sticky tape  this all together

perfect sun catcher for your kids room!!!
enjoy

Day 152-winter has begun

For those of us in the southern hemisphere winter has officially begun! although the morning was quite chilly the day ended up being a lovely 18c (global warming is not all bad! ha ha)
Tonight's craft makes use of those fallen leaves covering the ground everywhere I tread! see below...

don't you love the colours of the autumn leaves...
This project is one that kids will love!!!!
Cut out a piece of Waxed paper double the size that you want. Fold this in half. Make sure you use Waxed paper and not greaseproof or baking paper as you need the wax to make it stick.
lay out your leaves onto one half of the waxy side of the paper, fold the other side over. You should have both wax sides touching with the leaves in between.
Find a window to decorate, it looks great and the colours are fab when the sun shines.
If you have french doors it would look fabulous to do a long full length panel.
